Report: EU, US may toughen, expand anti-Russian sanctions

MOSCOW, Mar 23 (PRIME) -- The E.U. is working in coordination with the U.S. on possible toughening or expansion of the anti-Russian sanctions, and they may coordinate new measures this week, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday citing sources.

At the same time, no significant steps like suspension of purchases of Russian oil and gas can be expected. Sources told Bloomberg that the scale of any new measures would be small, and the E.U. may likely focus on closing loopholes and bypasses.

The U.S. and the E.U. may announce new asset freezes and bans of entry for individuals and legal entities. At the same time, some European countries, including Germany, wanted the E.U. to focus on toughening of the existing sanctions, Bloomberg reported.
